Casey Stoner to return early

Motogp News

Stoner has announced he will be back in the saddle for Motegi

CASEY STONER has announced on his blog that he will be fit to return for the Japanese Grand Prix on the 14th of October.

Reigning champion Stoner was previously expected to return in time for the Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island, but it now seems he will be rejoining his team early next week.

Stoner wrote:

'It's been another quiet week here in Australia. I've been resting, having some physio and following doctor's orders to recover'

'The good news is that I feel I can race in Motegi and will be rejoining my team next week. I can't wait.'

He has missed the last three races after breaking his ankle in a crash in qualifying in Indianapolis.

Stoner has scored four wins this year and is still third in the championship despite his absence. But despite his early return he sadly has no chance of retaining his title. He is now 104 points behind championship leader Jorge Lorenzo - but there are a maximum of 100 points on offer from the remaining four races - in Japan, Malaysia, Australia and Spain.

However with Repsol Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa just 33 points behind fellow Spaniard Lorenzo, Stoner could play a part in assisting him to his first title.
